Many communities in Canada’s North are underserved by veterinary services. There are only six vet clinics in the three territories; three in Whitehorse Yukon, one in Dawson City Yukon, two in Yellowknife NWT, and one in Iqaluit Nunavut. However, due to geographical and economic constraints, access to these services is limited for people and animals living in the more remote communities. This results in animal welfare and public health concerns.
Inuvik Vet Clinic is committed to providing continuity and consistency of care for animals in the north, while respecting cultural views and uses of working dogs. We recognise that we operate our clinic on Gwich’in and Inuvialuit Traditional Lands and are thankful for the continued support of Indigenous people.
Although most animals in the Beaufort Delta are dogs, there are also a growing number of cats. Other types of pets include hamsters, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, rabbits, snakes and even fish.
